Running a damaged AC unit can turn a $150 minor repair into a $5,000 complete compressor failure. Call us immediately if you notice any of the following.
If your thermostat is set to "cool" but your vents are blowing room-temperature or warm air, shut the system off. This typically indicates a failed compressor, a severe refrigerant leak, or a broken reversing valve. Running it in this state can burn out the motor.
Air conditioners should hum quietly. A metallic screeching noise often means the fan motor bearings are failing. A loud banging or clanking usually means a component has broken loose inside the compressor casing and is actively destroying the unit from the inside.
If you see a block of ice forming on the copper lines outside, or on the evaporator coil inside, your system is freezing up. This is usually caused by severely restricted airflow (a clogged filter) or dangerously low refrigerant levels. Turn it off to let it thaw before we arrive.
If your AC turns on, runs for 3 minutes, shuts off, and immediately turns back on again, it is short-cycling. This puts immense strain on your electrical grid and the system's starter components. It can be caused by a faulty thermostat, an oversized unit, or a failing capacitor.
